GE Refrigerator E4 Error Code

The defrost thermistor (detecting evaporator temperature) is faulty.

Common causes

  • Failed defrost thermistor
  • Wiring damage
  • Water intrusion in connector

How to fix it

  1. Test defrost thermistor resistance (should be high at cold temps).
  2. Check for broken wires near evaporator.
  3. Replace if out of spec.
